In a historic win for Texas wineries, Adega Vinho Winery’s 2022 Viognier Reserve secured the Grand Champion title at the 23-24 San Antonio International Wine Competition. This marks a significant milestone as it is the first time a Texas winery has been awarded the top honor in this prestigious competition, typically dominated by California and European wines.
Not only did the 2022 Viognier Reserve clinch the Grand Champion spot, but it also earned a coveted Double Gold designation. This accolade is bestowed upon wines that receive a Gold Medal from each judge on the distinguished panel. This is a testament to the exceptional quality and unanimous praise for this wine.
The San Antonio International Wine Competition featured an impressive panel of judges who meticulously evaluated over 900 entries from 324 wineries worldwide including 47 from the Lone Star State.
The winners were celebrated at the annual Champion Wine Auction and Dinner in November 2023. Founder Andy Bilger and Elena Bilger, Co-Founder along with head winemaker/Co-Founder, Michael Bilger, attended the celebration plus most of the staff and Veesart Vineyards, to receive the Golden Spur Award.
Five other Texas Wines from Adega Vinho won awards and Gold Medals at this year’s competition.
